Some people search for wisdom. Others for truth. Then there are those who search for views from toilets…

Seven things you really don't expect to see from a toilet...

Things that you might expect to see from a toilet include doors, towels, baths, showers, maybe bidets and sinks. But probably not these things:

1. Elephants

Big game spotting from toilets - yes, it’s possible! There are a number of loos with a view in African safari camps, including this beauty at the Old Mondoro Safari Camp, Zambia. It’s an open-air toilet with views of the Zambezi river - including any animals that may be crossing...

2. Sea turtles

This is the ladies’ loo at the beachside Mumin Papa Cafe in Akashi, Japan. As well as a variety of tropical fish, the three-sided aquarium, in which the loo is built, is said to be home to a voyeuristic sea turtle.

3. Aeroplanes taking off and landing

Brilliantly, the urinals between Gates B6 & B7 at Singapore Changi Airport come with a clear view of the runway. What a way to either say goodbye or say hello to Singapore. The ladies’ loo has a similar view from the sinks. As we look, a Qatar Airways plane is taxiing past the window while Singapore Airways flight SQ2 to San Francisco, via Hong Kong, prepares for boarding.

4. Many species of sea bird

An outdoor toilet at the Copeland Bird Observatory in Northern Ireland, allows members to continue bird watching at all times. 106 species of bird were spotted at the observatory in 2017, including Red Kite, Whopper Swan, Puffin, Teal and Stock Dove. It is not known how many of the 106 have been spotted from this toilet.

5. Terraced Rice Paddy Fields

There’s no picture of the toilet to prove it, but this is honestly the bathroom view at the Ryoshi Restaurant, Tirta Gangga, Bali. There is a curtain should you require privacy, but open it up and this gorgeous, rural Balinese view appears before you as you sit.

As well as the toilet view, Tirta Gangga is known for its water palace, which features in this video about Bali:

6. The fires of Mordor

This super looking dunny on Mount Ruapehu, New Zealand, looks out on Mount Ngauruhoe, an active volcano in the Tongariro National Park. Little would you know that Ngauruhoe was used as Mount Doom in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.

7. A chip shop

And finally… the entertainment doesn’t stop at this theatre in London’s West End, where gentlemen can see a fish and chip shop from the toilets.
