Extraordinary toilet photographed on Alcatraz Island
Alcatraz is known for its inmates and their audacious escape attempts across San Francisco Bay. But spare a thought for the guards - especially those on lookout duty. Shifts in the Alcatraz guard towers were tough. But at least there was a toilet! There is one guard tower remaining on Alcatraz today (pictured above). Look closely and you can see the toilet. Escaping prisoners may or may not have been spotted from it...
Alcatraz Island - a.k.a. ‘The Rock’ - sits in San Francisco Bay. It’s now, of course, a major tourist attraction/museum and is managed by the US National Parks Service. Boats to the island leave from Pier 33, North Beach, San Francisco.
